The Ritual of the Steep: Infuse by Akro

Sitting in the shade of a tea garden of a destination and sipping on an earl-grey.

The Story
There is a specific stillness found only in the shade of a walled tea garden. While the vacation sun beats against the flowered wall, you are tucked away in a cool pocket of green, watching steam curl from a porcelain cup. This is the setting Olivier Cresp builds with Infuse.
For those following my Instagram stories this week, you know I have been immersed in a "Tea Week" to bridge the gap between spring and the coming heat. Tea is a personal sanctuary for me, specifically the reliable comfort of an Earl Grey.
Infuse captures that addiction, the daily ritual of the steep, but strips away the sugar and the artifice.
Olivier Cresp, the nez who defined the gourmand style with Angel, uses his own house to explore life’s compulsions. Here, he moves away from the typical tea scents and dives into a more dark, complex heart of the leaves.

The Scent
The opening is a luminous collision as you get the zesty, solar flash of bergamot that immediately mimics the brightness of a fresh Earl Grey, in my nose. Nestled within that soft citrus is a delicate, velvety apricot aroma that is the natural, suede-like breath of osmanthus flowers. That floral-fruity presence is masterfully executed, lingering as a soft golden thread through the entire wear.
As the fragrance opens up, the "liquid narrative" shifts from the garden to the cup. You find a sharp contrast between the bitter, herbal punch of maté and the smoother, more complex depths of Oolong. It feels like dipping your nose into a bag of dried, dark herbs and resinous, earthy, and unapologetically deep.
The dry down moves into a woodier territory with guaiac wood and vetiver, which provide a sturdy, dry anchor, while a disciplined dose of Ambroxan creates a veil of aromatic water vapor.
It avoids the milky sweetness of a gourmand tea or the fleeting nature of a cologne. Instead, it remains a photorealistic portrait of tea in its most potent form.
The Verdict
Infuse is a sophisticated tonic, if you will. It is relaxing yet invigorating, possessing a certain sensual weight while remaining breathable enough for a humid afternoon. It stands apart from the crowd by embracing bitterness and smoke rather than hiding them under layers of vanilla.
If you enjoy the raw, herbal honesty of a well-brewed cup, this is a highly underrated gem that deserves a place in your rotation.
